Whales

The ocean and its vast creatures have remained a mystery to humans for many years. To this day we still don’t know much about any of them, but the ones that hold our curiosity most of all may be whales, and in particular for Newfoundlands shores the humpback whale. Our fascination with getting a glimpse of these graceful 40 tonne creatures may be due to the fact that they are quite the performers. Known for being the most acrobatic of whale species, these enormous mammals put on spectacular shows, showing off their pectoral fin waves, breach twirls, and their tail slaps to anyone within viewing distance. Here at Ecotours were a grateful audience and always applaud and give rave reviews when granted a humpback performance. If you’re lucky enough a curious humpback whale may even spy hop alongside our tour boat, looking to get a glimpse into our world. From the comfort of our cushioned seating you can also see other marine mammals such as, the fin whale, the second largest animal on the planet, the elusive minke whale, playful dolphins and for the extremely fortunate adventurer you may see a pod of orcas, also known as the killer whale.
